LEVEL VS LEVEL [h]
iPod Video tested using MS10 Sequence 3 and Segment h at -18dB FS with Noise shaping. Composite results sheet.
The iPod has a very good frequency response and noise and distortion performance. The iPod would pass Lindos Grade A were it a) not clipping on the +18dB distortion measurement and b) not giving a poor high frequency phase response (caused by their use of a single DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor) - stardard cost saving measure across all MP3 players and only really an issue when both channels are being summed to provide a mono signal).
Note that the iPod almost has 18dB of headroom (EBU standard) above its maximum volume setting.
