Poor LF response, needs compensating. Noise acceptable though 12db worse than true 16-bit performance.

Audio level is set to 4, at which unity gain in-out is acheived. Input is -16dBu (-10dB Unison AL) which just gives 18dB headroom. A permanently in fast-compressor operates above this level. Note that half-way up on the level indicator corresponds to about -12dBFS which is a good level to aim at most of the time.

The LF roll-off, and excess input noise are much the same as on other Sony camcorders, such as the VX1000, but it is possible to get very high quality music recordings using an input adaptor incorporating low frequency equalisation.
